For the love I give is given back to me threefold. That is how I feel about our dogs.
Ehu is a special one, she was actually given to us by her owner. They asked my brother if he could find a nice home for her. They said they could no longer take care of her because they were moving and the new place would not allow pets. So my brother agreed to help.
We would have kept her from the beginning but, our other dog (Coco) which is four years older than her just didn’t want anything to do with a very active puppy of 45 pounds and muscles.
My brother found a family with two young boys and they wanted to “test drive” Ehu to see if she was the right dog for them. After a week they said they didn’t think she was right for them. They hesitated and said that they would try another week with her. After the second week they returned her saying that she was too rough with their two boys.
So the search went on to finding her another home. This one guy said he already had a dog (some kind of show dog) and wanted another dog. So we gave him all of her things and we said our goodbyes again. By this time it was getting harder to see her leave and even our other dog felt like there was something missing after she left.
It was about three months later while I was shopping for a chair we got a call to pick up our dog from another town. I was shocked! How could Coco go so far away? How did she get out when we lock the gates? The Humane Society gave us the address to go to and so we went there as fast as we could. As soon as we neared the house of the address, I saw Ehu sitting on the outside of the fence. On the other side was a huge black dog sitting near her keeping her company.
Ehu looked dirty like she hadn’t had a bath in months. She was flea and tick infested and look very thin as if she hadn’t eaten in a while.
I jumped out of my brother’s truck as my brother came to a stop and I called her name. She came running! She was so happy to see us.
We took her home with us and gave her a bath and cleaned her up and gave her food and water.
My brother called the Humane Society to complain about the guy who was suppose to be her new owner but, since he never registered her, they told us she still belonged to us.
From that day, we kept her. We decided that there must be a reason for her to keep coming back to us.
About three years ago Ehu developed a tumor. It was removed right away but, unfortunately it was malignant and the cancer had spread. The Vet told us Ehu had only about two years more. I’m happy to say that Ehu is still with us. Happy and healthy so far.
She is one happy dog! We love her and Coco! :-)
