This house,
in time knew laughter.
For children once here played
Now this brick-work
Knows no song.
This house lies in rot,
and dark decay.

Walk through the rooms of silence,
and hear your footsteps beat.
On bent and rotted floorboards.
Where once they sat,’pon woven mat
in rooms which glowing embers heat.

Hear the words, and see the laughter of neighbours
as they talked both sides of the fence.
Gaze up towards the rooftops
where the chimney smoke laid dense
upon the air.

Look through rotted window pane.
through broken shades of glass.
Gaze out into the street
where once, you marbles played.
And think of games and laughter
and dream of childhood days.
