thanks Bruce … there’s something alien about Lightning Ridge anyway … this couple and their dogs (the jack russell fetched lumps of rock like our JRs fetch tennis balls) were sitting on the steps of a pub in Lightning Ridge but that didn’t show the context of the environment.

thanks Fran … we met them in town then again later as we drove around the mining area … mine shafts are scattered everywhere, mainly one- or two-person operations that sometimes inadvertantly meet underground
