Discourse with an American Dadaist - Part 4
Bubble-Brother Andy, you mention “business culture.”
To quote Maya Angelou’s brother, Bailey Johnson, “All knowledge is spendable currency depending on the market.” These days we must concentrate on transferable skills and my hope is that it all comes together and there will be a way to make enough money to keep up if we are forward thinking.
Business Culture IN Art, or Business Culture AS Art = to take the more philosophical approach.
My work Bidden began with a photograph of The Watch with the idea of using the shiny elements of the band for some purpose or other. It morphed into a collage which could be used commercially in an industry mag for attorneys. The final work has personal meaning for me, possible “business culture” use, and meaning to artists for the skill (if any) shown. Am I making sense? Well, onward…
“Marketing” in general relies heavily on the art of packaging and visual persuasion, but until rather recently has been pretty overt in showing cheery stereotypical persons or settings in conjunction with the product. Marshall McLuhan, WIRED magazine, upscale catalogues and specific product line ads have associated the Art with the Business, which becomes an art object in itself.
Subtle jibes at one’s business affiliation seems a logical extension: the cartoon of the profession proudly displayed on the office wall in place of the portrait of the founder of the firm. heh heh

Please worry not, Doctor,
the challenge is spreading.
Perhaps it was meant to be so.
All is well, now and always.

yes…Time does not exist.
I found the “reply” thingy! Sometimes this is harder than hanging a gallery show.
