Hi, I’m Martin from England, I’ve had no formal training and learnt mostly from countless trips to galleries and libraries.
Thanks for all your comments, they are very encouraging.
I’ve always had a love of painting and started off like many kids making a mess with wax crayons on walls. I got told off for it too.
My earliest attempts were trees, just green blobs on a brown stick until someone pointed out that trees are more complex. I started adding branches and started to look at things as they appear and not so much how they should appear.
I believe that anyone can draw and paint, they just need to learn how to see. I’m still learning.
I work in a variety of media including pencil, pastel and acrylic paints. My favourite medium however is oils.
You’ll find an assortment of my creations here including some digital collages. I’ve just acquired a new digital SLR. camera and you can click here to view my photography. I’m not very good but I am learning slowly.
Martin.

This started off as what was intended to be a loose oil painting…. / I first primed a sheet of 120lb Windsor and Newton Galleria textured paper on both sides with a household acrylic primer …
Ok, so some purist oil painters may shudder at the thought of using acrylic paint as an under painting for oils.
I always start an oil portrait with an accurate pencil drawing applied directly to the canvas or panel. In this case I am using an HB pencil on a stretched linen canvas of 12×10 inches.
This started off as a rough sketch with a graphite pencil and acrylics paints.
While chatting to a great watercolourist friend in Florida, USA we came up with the idea of sharing creative ideas across the internet and seeing what each other could do with the others idea.
