Image to be used for CD Cover - Consider your tagging!

Hi Everyone,
This morning i recieved an e-mail from an independent UK record company who would like to use one of my photographs for a CD. As you can imagine this is very exciting. This is the second time i have had this sort of success as earlier this year i was approached by penguin publishing to use an image for a novel.
When investigating how did they find my work , in both instances they searched on redbubble under a particular tag. So be careful how you tag and consider what sort of tags should relate to your work as RedBubble is becoming a fantastic way graphic designers can find artwork they need for their projects.

PS I was thrilled with’Pure Music’ being Featured on the Home Page yesterday Thanks again RB!

Excellent news, Michael! I also have an image going to be used for a cd cover, but I didn’t think to ask how the buyer searched for it. Can you give us a clue to the tag they used for their search?

  • Hi Mel, Congrats to you also, In my case it was Fitzroy and Circus, probably straight forward tags relating to the image, but it’s interesting that these buyers will have a theme in mind and then will search by that!

Great tip! Thank you and Congratulations!!! Truly exciting news! And very cool to hear that designers are using Redbubble as an image catalog! I had no idea… Will certainly be putting more thought into my tags from now on.:)

Hi Michael, just out of interest did you licence the work to them? I have had Yen magazine use my art work for a Christmas shoot which was very cool. However it did not convert into any sales for me which is a shame, especially when you are trying to make a living from art. Bec

Hi Bec they purchased the use of the image for$200 but I did not see the end result as based in UK. However the novel image for ‘Last of the braves’ earned me $800. I really didn’t know what to charge at the time and was guided by them. I guess it’s trying to get your image out there in so many forums (use hashtags on twitter) I’ve been experimenting with this and if you post in twitter you get a high volume of traffic directed to red bubble image – for example just this morning I had an image with 7 views, posted on Twitter and now have over 80 views in one day. It’s then hoping this converts to something! M
