What the heck is a “grinding” tornado and what makes a “possible” grinding tornado. This looks like a tornado. There’s different kinds of tornados?
Jeremy Jones
Well, It was weird the way this one formed. The Vortex formed from the ground up, and broke up really fast. A “Grinding” tornado is one that looks just like a pepper “Grinder”. Those usually will sit and stay in one spot and just chew the earth up!

Outstanding capture!

Wow! Where is this??
My fiance and I are hoping to go storm chasing in the states next year, I can only hope we will be lucky enought to see something like this!
Jeremy Jones replied
This was taken in North/Central Oklahoma.
I sure hope you go Storm Chasing with an Experienced Storm Chasing
Tour Group. My dad and I chase together, and have over 20 years of
weather spotting between the both of us. And on this chase at one
point was surrounded by 3 Tornadoes….Nowhere to Run. Luckily that time, two of em’ roped out (Died) and we were able to RUN!!
You sure DO NOT want to be out storm chasing without any Idea of what Storm structure looks like, and how to interpret the everchanging weather conditions.
I sure don’t want to discourage you from experiencing the thrill of a chase, but I also Don’t want to hear or Read about any lost lives, after
we ( my dad, and I) return home. I have been hit in the bridge of my nose with Softball size hail….Knocked unconscious, broke my nose,
damn near killed me. My dad has had 100 MPH straight line winds blow
his windows out….Not a pleasant experience!!
Anyways, I just felt compelled to let you know just a Few of the dangers
of chasing….THE BIGGEST DANGER OF ALL….....LIGHTNING!!!!
Thank you so much for stopping by!!

Oh don’t worry, we will definitely be going with a tour group. We have looked into it, there seems to be some really good (and experienced) tour groups to go with.
My fiance and I are both facinated by storms but only know the very very basics about them. Not nearly enough to do it alone. I watched so many documentries on tornado alley and I know how quickly the situation can change.
That is awesome that you and your Dad go together. Must be pretty intense. I can’t believe the hail and the wind can be so extreme. Makes me all the more excited to go. But come home safely… of course. lol
Thank you so much for the info though. I really appreciate it. Hopefully by this time next year I should have some of my own tornado shots up. Fingers crossed!
Jeremy Jones replied
Thats great to hear….Maybe we’ll see you out in the Target Area someday!!!
Here is one tour group that I have heard is very knowledgeable and has
a team of Meteorologists that chase with the group with Live data streaming in, to forecast the best Target Area.
