Originally from Bangor in North Wales, after studying both Media (Moving Image) and A Level Photography for two years each at Coleg Menai, I moved to Lincoln, where after four years, I eventually got my degree in Contemporary Lens Media, choosing to focus on film-making rather than photography in my second and third years.
Ironically, I have (for the time being at least) left film-making behind now and recently unearthed my Pentax K1000 after three years of it collecting dust. I love manual black and white photography, and the college dark room, to this day, remains my favourite place. Sadly, I have not developed a film or print for over four years now.
After university, I moved to Swindon, and since arriving here over a year ago, I have taken to reading a fair amount, as well as focusing on writing stories. I have several ideas that I have been developing for years.
Although I’ve always wanted to take photographs of people, I’ve never really had the confidence to do so (the most interesting people to me are not friends or family, but those you see in the street). As a result of this, my photographic work is mostly of places and animals (as animals don’t ask questions, although sometimes can refuse to cooperate).
The one person who has done the most modelling for me, is myself – a majority of this work being done in college in a study of identity – a theme that I have much interest in.
In terms of other people’s work, I love photography that takes you places and has a sense of atmopshere (this mostly applies to landscape work) and that which focuses, once again, on identity.
I have been writing song lyrics and poetry for as along as I can recall, but, prompted by my brother’s interest in the subject, I began to write my own story ideas (most of which were stolen from my brother in the earlier years).
My style, like my subject matter, can be very diverse, as I have yet to find my own personal method of writing. As a result, themes range from love to horror to experimental, and sometimes all three and more.
Some of my older images were taken with a Pentax K1000. The rest (the digital ones) were taken with a Fujifilm camera (I forget the exact name). Nowadays, a vast majority are taken with my Lumix Panasonic DMC-FS42, and the rest with my mobile phone: a Sony Ericsson K800i.
Any comments on my work will be appreciated. It gives me feedback on my work and allows me to discover new photographers and other artists on this site who’s work I might be interested in.
