Since the 1960s a distinctive “Border Morris” style has grown. The tradition is characterised by black faces, tattered shirts or coats, lots of stick-clashing and a big band traditionally comprising melodeon, fiddle, concertina, triangle and tambourine.

Shot taken at Chepstow Apple Day, Monmouthshire, South Wales.

I am at a lost for the purpose of the dance but the costumes and colors are terrific!!!!
    An excellent capture!!! Bill

  • I believe this dance was wassailing – a traditional ceremony that involves dancing and drinking to give thanks for the bumper crop of apples used for making cider.

Good action shot, I tried to take pictures of the Shropshire Bedlam Dancers at the Green Man Festival in Clun earlier this year and found it quite tricky, they’re so fast

  • They are fast, several of my shots are blurred. Glad you like this one :)
