Selfishness Shelved

This is my baby, I have not met him or her yet

Selfishness Shelved belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical and Birth and Maternity

Selfishness shelved
‘Woe Is Me’ set aside, cast into a silky, hearty web of ‘Blessed Am I.’
Obsession with flat stomach, tight buns and perfect complexion
Transformed into an acceptance of self, pure love for the bump
Stretched, accomodating skin and a yearning to share

Unconditional love already in my eyes, and those of my man
For the unborn angel, our dream, our shared promise.
Want turns to need, reliance on each other – to nurture the life
That waits quietly within

Priorities turned asunder, friendships re-upholstered
A new world develops as the first child grows
Twenty-three weeks and one day of fulfillment
As tired clliches and sayings suddenly ring true

Selfishiness shelved
Gathering dust as we wait, drowning in the awe of really meeting you
Obsession with fitting in and finding my niche
Transformed into acceptance
Of love, of purpose, of waiting just for you.
