The Day after 9/11

The day after there was still blood on my face.
The dead, in a heap of ash,
The ones who were gone in a moment of hatred
Then there were the ones we still held out hope for
There were the prayers, the begging we did to God,
The mercy we pleaded for our loved ones,
The twisted wreckage of what our country had really become,
Only we didn’t know it.

There was love the next day, our neighbors comforting us,
The world grieving with us, and giving us condolences
“We are all Americans today!”
Our friends from around the world called out to us

There were priests praying with fire chiefs,
Many who hadn’t stepped into a church for years
Came and knelt on the altar before The Lord
In homes around the country,
Families clutching their bibles, and wept on their knees
And on their faces before The Throne of God

There was an abyss
We thought the demons had crawled out
The sky Blackened with locusts.
No sun for weeks
With the flag draped around our shoulders,
We knew we had sinned,
Taking the bible and prayer out of our schools,
Killing our babies, because we couldn’t fit them into
Our lifestyles of ease and convenience,
So we swept their tiny bodies under the skirts of
The Statue of Liberty,
Pretending we didn’t know
With the stains on our souls,
We walked into our local churches,
Sang hymns,
Crosses around our necks became
Mere accessories,

“But, we didn’t really believe anymore.”

We were rich and we were strong,
We gulped our big gulps without straws,
We danced “The Macarena”, we did our
Dirty dancing,
Watched our Super Bowls,
And went to our chili cook-offs,
So many other things,
That scratched at our hearts to stop,
But we didn’t listen to God’s Beating heart,

“We pleaded innocent.”
We were dumbfounded.
Acted clueless,

We liked the taste of our sins,
Mixed them into our coffees, and lattes,
And power juices,
We did penance on our own terms,
By giving money to half of the world,
And sending missionaries overseas
On our behalf,
Preached a gospel, that tickled our ears,
That filled up football stadiums,
But were they the right words?
With the wrong heart,
Were they the right words,
With no heart at all.

We pleaded the causes of dogs,
And whales,
And the environment,
Every other thing,
But what God asked of us.
When the towers fell,
And we swallowed the ashes,
Of its humiliation
Our President led us in prayer
With a host of other men who cried out to their gods,
So God could not send the rain,
As we had erected altars to Baal,
God could send us no rain.
Our land is parched,
The levees are broken,
The hurricanes,
And the tornados
Are warnings of something more
Terrible to come

The Day After we sit in a puddle
Of remembrance
“Have we forgotten?”
How much it hurt?

Wonderful work. So vivid the memory and the pain in our hearts yet most do not even understand what you have explained. And worst of all because we still are not waking up and looking up, talking to God while it is still today. More is now coming our way. Peoples ears do not hear, their eyes do not see, their hearts are hard. But no matter we still need to speak , to write, to pray and hope for a revival someday.♥

  • Thank-you Anne~I really appreciate your comment~The world, our nation is slowly descending into madness and sin~it isn’t either political party at the heart of blame~ it is because of sin without repentance~Americans need to get on their knees and search for God with all of the pain in their hearts~No one is happy about the condition of our country, but let’s face it we are reaping what we have sown~May God continue to use you, Anne for His Glory~

That was the day the world changed forever! This was, I am sure, a consequence of collective sin. The Two Towers were symbols of America’s pride, so were a prime target for Al-Qaeda. Opportunities were there to prevent it happening, but the evidence was ignored. This Day of Darkness brought out the best and the worst in people, as tragedy always does, making them show what manner of fruit they are.
