I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in The Son of God who loved me, and gave Himself for me."
IF we could only reflect The life of The Lord Jesus. This is the greatest challenge, the greatest longing inside of me. As believers we must be crucified with Jesus Christ on the cross. But, in contemporary Christianity we think this is symbolic and not literal. We, as I, falsely believe that God owes us natural blessings. Blessings of love, health, materialism, etc. This is the path of true obedience, believing and knowing that our flesh has been crucified with His. What is The True Way of The Cross? Allowing God to do whatever is necessary to make us holy.
“But as He who called you is Holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, be holy for I AM Holy!”
Obedience comes when the believer accepts the trials God has prepared for Him. How can we listen to The Holy Spirit? When we allow God to do His Will in every aspect of our lives. When we give our flesh over to God to crucify with His Son Jesus. Jesus was putting to death the sinful body on the cross, the sinful body of every believer. God put to death the sins of the flesh, through Jesus Christ.
For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh." That the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to The Spirit."
God is not preparing our ease and comfort. He is preparing trials for us. To strip away the flesh. As our Lord suffered as He bled on the cross. So also, we must die to ourselves, and allow God to kill the outer man, the flesh. This is obedience. Allowing God to crucify us to reveal the life of His Son inside of us.
True Christianity is allowing God to crucify us with The Saviour Jesus Christ. To trust God daily in whatever struggles he brings our way. True trust develops when we follow Him as Master, not rationalizing, nor reasoning, nor asking, but saying , “Yes”, as an obedient servant. As Christ humbled Himself for us by becoming obedient to the point of death, yea, even the death on the cross, a most excruciating and terrible death. Death on the cross, was a criminal’s death, as Scripture says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.” ( Galatians 3:13)
Until we allow God through The Holy Spirit to put to death the deeds of the flesh, we will only have a marginal walk with our Lord Christ. It is sad to write marginal, but Christ is never fully manifested in the life of many a believer. The Spirit of Christ is not allowed expression, to work, to preach, to love, nor to bless those lives directly in the path of the believer.
Going to church is good, but quenching The Holy Spirit is to deny Christ. It is to deny the power of God that lives inside of each of us. I believe the life of Christ is unleashed through suffering and trials. As God says In His Word:
“Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by thing things which He suffered.”
