Prayers In Her Hair

she laid bare under her bed,
with prayers in her hair
waiting for God to pick them
and not forget
she waited,
meanwhile a breeze
blew them all away
disillusion danced
mockingly,
her prayers could
not be re-gathered
or recollected,

she tried so long to run
from a past,
clutching her kleenix
between breasts
that weep,
in dreams she has forgiven
herself,

trampling flowers beneath
rusted feet took her to alleys,

child of the streets
coldness is what she knows
deliberately suffers
with prayers in her hair

angry child
crouches in wait,
throat swollen
with blood
prayers are screams
forced from nakedness
and want,
she pulls the prayers
from her hair
releases them to
float to Heaven
her prayers
are stairways
to His Throne
Jesus made intercession for her
before she finished her prayers
