Self
A self-portrait within a self-portrait.
The giant face was drawn freehand by me using white charcoal & white chalk pastel on 22×30” black paper. It is the self-portrait assignment I’ve been working on for my drawing class, it’s not quite finished, hence the imperfections, but I thought that fit nicely with the concept I was going for.
The idea is that we sometimes see ourselves in a distorted manner; working on this drawing I’ve noticed certain details and flaws on my face that I’ve never fully observed before because I’ve never had to study and look at my face for such long periods of time.
Through our distorted self-perceptions, we often feel the need to recreate or modify ourselves to be the way we want to be both inside and outside.

This is great … your work is very unique. Love the concept of viewing yourself in a distorted way. I think a lot of this comes from external pressure to look or be a certain way.. the pressure to fit in & be accepted by others. I think modern day media has helped to perpetuate this pressure.
