At the Jefferson Island rookery, I observed this elegant male egret performing his graceful courtship dance while an admiring female on a lower branch stood enthralled. First, the male bows down very low as though to royalty and then ever so slowly, he raises his head higher and higher and higher, stretching his neck to the utmost limit and then bowing down again as he flicks his feathers in the gentlest way. It was truly a beautiful sight to see.
