Armed robbery of my 90 year old father and 86 year old mother

What kind of person preys on the elderly? Pulls a gun on the aged and unsuspecting, demands their money, and then proceeds to rob them of their hard-earned possessions? I don’t know the answer to my own question, but I would venture to guess it’s a cowardly sort who does this kind of thing.

Yesterday, my 90 year old father and 86 year old mother went shopping and upon returning to their home, were surprised when a young man rushed into their garage, pulled a gun on Daddy (still seated in his vehicle), and demanded all his money. Daddy grabbed the barrel of the gun, remembering from his WWII training to try to deflect the weapon from its intended aim. “I would have preferred a hole in the roof of my car than a hole in my head or Mama’s,” Daddy told me with steel in his resolve. After that unexpected tussle, the robber (probably quite surprised by the strength of the “feeble old fellow”), backed away from Daddy but still managed to open the back door of the car and steal the brand new TV my parents had just purchased. As soon as Mama was safely out of the vehicle, Daddy put his car in reverse and proceeded down the road in hot pursuit of the assailant. He gained on him and managed to cut him off at the stop sign at the end of their road, but was unsuccessful in preventing him from backing up and making his getaway via another route. In retrospect, Daddy regrets not just trying to get the license plate number. “All I could think about was stopping him in his tracks,” Daddy said. Instead, he settled for driving to the police station and letting them take over from there. THANKS be to GOD, Mama and Daddy are doing fine. Mama was terribly shaken, but the old soldier carried on with what some might call foolishness, but with what I call a Purple Heart, ready to defend and protect his wife and property at whatever cost! May the good Lord help the elderly and the vulnerable everywhere. May we appreciate and value their worth and admire the TRUE GRIT that many of them still possess!

To repeat my question, “What kind of person preys on the elderly?” I think it’s someone who lacks what Daddy, soon to be 91, still possesses after all these years—courage under fire!

P.S. Please pray this man will be caught and brought swiftly to justice so he can’t continue his cowardly assaults on the elderly.
