Chin Up!
I just love Carolina wrens; they are perky and bursting with personality. This one seemed to be saying, “Chin up!” Makes me cheerful just to see him.
The Carolina wren is known for its jaunty little poses, its upright tail, its distinctively long white eyebrow, and most of all its LOUD song! This little bird can belt out some tunes! Their movements are rapid and erratic and unlike some songbirds that linger at the feeders, the Carolina wren usually is very hasty about getting its grub and leaving abruptly which makes it hard to photograph as a result. Though they have occasionally made nests in nesting boxes, they seem to prefer hanging baskets for their domain. They build little igloo-like dwellings lined with soft mosses and lichens cleverly concealed within a fern or other such plants. Usually, the first time I notice their presence in one of my hanging baskets is during a routine watering when the wren comes charging out of hiding, sometimes barely missing my head! A cute little neighbor all around!

So cute. I just love these darling little birds. We don’t have nearly enough in Illinois—I only have 2. Great shot and lots of personality. I’m amazed how large the feet are in comparison to the rest of this dainty little bird.
