Thanks so much, John. These little wrens give me a run for my money; they flit about so hurriedly I have a hard time getting a shot.

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks, John; I appreciate the encouraging words. I have seen a house wren in the yard once or twice; the Carolinas are more prevalent here in the Deep South.

Excellent shot of a small bird, Bonnie. Looks like they have a rather long beak?

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Long beak and LOUD song! They may be tiny but they pack a lot of punch! Thanks for the comment, Cheryl!

awwww – this is really sweet – what great timing! It’s like he’s asking himself.. “is it edible?”

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

I think this was a bit of a peanut from the suet which the wren plucked from a suet log and then tackled on the ground below. He was tearing into it with gusto. Thanks for the comment, Jan; I appreciate it.

She is sooooooo cute! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one of our wrens in the UK! What a pretty little hairdo she has! I think she’s enjoying her meal! ;o)

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Cute is definitely a fitting description of the wren which is plucky and perky and full of vim and vigor. They never fail to make me smile. Thanks for the input, Krys, and I hope you get to see one of your own wrens soon!

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks so much, Jesika! The wren is tiny in body but big in character and song; years ago one of them kept singing loudly at my back door. I knew there was something amiss and checked on things. Sure enough, some undesirable critter (may have been a snake) was near the wren’s nest in one of my ferns. I think she was holllering for help! I love these little birds so much!

Eric just emailed me and told me she reminded him of Bertha C, another of their favorites to impersonate! What a nut! But you know he has a point; there is a strange resemblance!
