Pigeon in Flight
I walked right up to a pigeon sitting on a pier overlooking the Mississippi River in New Orleans; he tolerated my presence for a while and then took off after he got bored. It was a nice encounter, a fleeting but delightful moment.

Great freezing of the action, Bonnie! Your action birdie shots are wonderful. How pretty his feather patterns look in flight! ;o)
Bonnie T. Barry replied
I’m always amazed at the complexity of the patterns that are so much more evident in flight; thanks for commenting, Krys. You inspire and encourage a soul to keep “flying!”

Wonderful shot! I’ve tried to catch birds in flight and given up – well done!!
Bonnie T. Barry replied
Don’t give up, Felicity. Just make sure the shutter speed is at least at 500 and that should help you freeze the action. I learned a lot of tricks from other artists on RB who specialize in birds in flight. I’m still working at it and getting a few good ones every now and then. So much fun trying!
Ginny York
Nice catch and great stop in action.
Bonnie T. Barry replied
Thanks so much, Ginny! I practiced on gulls and pigeons as a first try and have slowly moved on to other birds. Fast shutter speed is the ticket for this kind of result; I still have lots to learn and am enjoying the venture!
