Hummingbird on Bottlebrush

Thanks so much, Joyce! This little mite caught me by surprise; I usually don’t see hummingbirds until later in the spring or summer. It was a joy to see his early arrival and a joy to share it with appreciative people like you, dear friend!

Thanks to Hurricane Gustav, I invested in new flowers after the old gardens were destroyed. Bottlebrush is a newcomer to my yard and am I glad about its presence. The hummingbirds love it, and I think the butterflies will, too. Thanks so much for always being so supportive and kind to me in my endeavors! You are a true friend.

Bottlebrush is a vibrant red which attracts hummingbirds so I’m sure the birds love it as much as you do! Thanks for taking the time to view this photo and to leave such kind words.

I guess I’m always trying to get super close to these birds, but your comments made me realize sometimes it’s good to pull back and give people a sense of perspective and a point of reference to help determine a bird’s size. Thanks for your valuable input.

The background is actually a very dense thicket of trees on the adjoining property which makes for a nice green backdrop here. I have a good lens which does the work for me; I can’t take much credit!
