Hummingbird on Bottlebrush

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks so much, Joyce! This little mite caught me by surprise; I usually don’t see hummingbirds until later in the spring or summer. It was a joy to see his early arrival and a joy to share it with appreciative people like you, dear friend!

How gorgeous Bonnie!!! I have the Bottlebrush plant (not yet in flower) but in the UK and I think all of Europe, we do not have Hummingbirds!! Such wonders they are! I saw my first and only in Peru!!! Glorious capture!!! More please! ;o)))

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks to Hurricane Gustav, I invested in new flowers after the old gardens were destroyed. Bottlebrush is a newcomer to my yard and am I glad about its presence. The hummingbirds love it, and I think the butterflies will, too. Thanks so much for always being so supportive and kind to me in my endeavors! You are a true friend.

Beautiful. Love the color of this.

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Bottlebrush is a vibrant red which attracts hummingbirds so I’m sure the birds love it as much as you do! Thanks for taking the time to view this photo and to leave such kind words.

    Excellent timing, beautiful image! Dee

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Dee, you are so kind to view the photo and write such supportive words. Timing is essential with these extremely rapid little birds; they give me a run for my money! But it’s so much fun; glad to share the joy with you.

This has me saying, “OH WOW”! This is another one of your beauties of nature.

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Wish I could have gotten closer, Sher, but you know I’ll keep inching there! Thanks so much for your comments; you have a very discerning eye so I appreciate what you have to share with me through your “lens”. God bless!

Amazing little birds. I was blown away when saw my first one in USA, this shows their size in relationship to a plant that I know. Great photo.

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

I guess I’m always trying to get super close to these birds, but your comments made me realize sometimes it’s good to pull back and give people a sense of perspective and a point of reference to help determine a bird’s size. Thanks for your valuable input.

Oh, this is so fantastic Bonnie. You caught the moment perfectly. You have such an enchanting talent.

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks, Carolyn! I don’t know about being talented but I am stubborn and persistent! If I stick around long enough (through rain and heat and sometimes mosquitoes), it usually it pays off. Thanks for the words of support and encouragement!

Oh how beautiful BB…Gentle soul you have my friend to capture the shots that you do. I thought about you today trying to get a bird to sit still lol I need to come and sit in your bird sanctuary :O)

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

LoraMae, I would love if you could come and sit in my bird sanctuary! Of course, we might chatter more than the birds and drive them away! I know we’d have fun, though, so come on over any time! I’ll treat you to a good Cajun meal afterwards! Thanks for being a genuine friend always!

  • TomBaumker

    TomBaumker

Beautiful capture everything is in balance Love the uncluttered background. Had to FAVOR this one my friend. Hugs Tom

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

The background is actually a very dense thicket of trees on the adjoining property which makes for a nice green backdrop here. I have a good lens which does the work for me; I can’t take much credit! Thanks so much, Tom; coming from a bird lover and an extraordinary bird photographer like you, your comments hold a lot of weight!

  • Lachlan Kent

    Lachlan Kent

Awesome work Bonnie… and sharp as a tack!

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks so much Lachlan; I work hard to get things sharp; in this case it worked because the light was strong and I could use high shutter speeds. Thanks for visiting my portfolio and for encouraging my efforts.

  • Tammy Espino

    Tammy Espino

Awesome capture~ I have been trying all week to get mine eating the flowers, no luck!!!

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Hang in there, Tammy; they’ll keep coming back! I noticed this little hummer returned to the bottlebrush approximately every fifteen or twenty minutes, so I had to spend quite a while just waiting for his return. I’m looking forward to your hummers! Thanks for taking the time to look at my photo and to leave kind words!

I love this photo Bonnie. Also, close Australian relatives to the bottlebrush are the grevillea and banksia. Planting a few of these are almost guaranteed to attract the birds and butterflies (I actually had some spare seed if anyone is interested in growing them :-).
