Flapper
I decided to turn my camera from the peaceful flotilla of ducks on the lake to those engaged in more frenetic action! I found it much more fun and a lot more exciting, not to mention challenging to freeze this action! I really loved watching the energetic flapping of this duck after it emerged from the water. It’s really amazing to see the intricacies of their plumage!

GREAT ACTION CAPTURE, Bonnie!! My husband would say, ‘not another butt shot,’ (what can I say I take them which ever way they are facing, they might be the only shots I get!!) but if you took this shot from the front you wouldn’t be able to see the beautiful ruffles feathers on the ducks back! What a great capture. Ducks are so captivating to watch. We had a female duck that kept coming to visit our pool this summer. She’d lodge herself between the side of the pool and the ladder so she wouldn’t move and would sit there preening herself, this was her ritual. Very fun to watch.
