Thank you for defending the cause of freedom
A bald eagle perched atop a bare tree and looking intensely around him reminded me of Rick and Scot, two nephews, who are serving our country in the Middle East, both of them on their second tour of duty, both having served in Iraq and Afghanistan, both with wives and children at home, both brave and giving young men. I would like to dedicate this image (taken at Amelia, Louisiana, on January 1, 2009) to Rick and Scot and to their families who are also very vital components in the defense of freedom. Here’s a note from my nephew who was encouraged by this card: Thanks for the words to the troops currently deployed (Rick and I especially). This war has been going for so long, many forget about us over here. It’s just a few words of encouragement and support that makes us feel we are doing good for the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. This country is very beautiful with its snow-capped mountains and rich green valleys.

Today is my last day here on the eastside of Baghdad, if all goes well I should be flying out tonight making the long journey home to my girls.. Hopefully, I’ll be home before next weekend.
