Visit to the Barber Shop

This small town barber shop has been in existence for almost sixty years; my father, 84 years young, is still at the helm, taking care of his clientele who prefer Daddy’s skills (and conversation) to the modern day, slick salons and spas. Here’s the old pro giving a trim to his great-grandson who was in town for the holidays.

Visiting Daddy’s barbershop is like a step back in time; it may not be full of fancy products or have fashionable decor, but it’s got character and the old gents who congregate there have interesting stories to tell and rich, abundant lives to share. I feel much more at home there than in the sleek salons.

What a great moment to share and capture….. so sweet.
does your daddy wear a tie each day to the shop?

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks, Kimmie, for viewing the photo and leaving nice words of encouragement. Daddy does indeed wear a tie and a starched, freshly ironed, white shirt daily to work. Mama keeps him looking spiffy. It’s the time-honored tradition of barbers, one they keep faithfully.

Kinda takes me back to the old days of ‘short, back and sides’ (whether I wanted it or not).
I have a few pics of shops like this that have stayed in a time warp.
    Hats off to your dad!!

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks so much, Lensman. As always, I appreciate your kind comments and the time you take to view new additions to my gallery. Hats off to you, too!

Oh Bonnie, take several thousand photos in there! You’ll always be glad you did!

  • Bonnie T. Barry replied

Thanks, Chipper, for that great tip. You know, I never thought of taking lots of pictures there, but you’re right. There are treasures there that should be immortalized in pictures! I’ll make sure to go to Daddy’s shop very soon to photograph all the details there!

Some of those pictures look really old gorgeous, and the time on the clock, reflection in the mirror, brilliant shot alround xxxxxxxxxx

Thanks for your observations, Carlotta! Most of those pictures ARE really old! My father collects labels from sweet potato crates. Many of the growers were his customers who gave him pristine, unused labels from their inventory. Most of those brands are no longer even in existence so his collection is quite unique.
