Teensy Leaves the Nest

I was shocked to see Teensy standing at the edge of the nest this morning while Mom and Daddy Cardinal clicked and chinked encouragingly to their little one. After a treat from Dad and more clicks and chinks from Mom, Teensy spread tiny wings and took flight to a neighboring rosebush. I will miss seeing the family interacting in their nest in the rosebush near my bedroom window, but I feel blessed beyond words to have been given the opportunity to watch Teensy’s life unfold from egg to hatchling to fledgling. Maybe I’ll spot Teensy later at the feeders! I’ll be sure to keep you posted and thank you for viewing my series of Life with the Cardinals.

Teensy is adorable and I understand your joy at watching the babies (I have watched our doves from egg to fledglings!) ;-) At least you have some wonderful shots to remind you!

Thanks so much for everyone’s comments about Teensy and for the cardinal series of photos I’ve added in the past few days. I was afraid Teensy had fledged prematurely, but after doing some research, I found out that baby cardinals fledge as soon as ten days after hatching. Teensy hatched eleven days ago, so things are just as they should be. Still, I’m a nervous Nellie; please say a little prayer all goes well with this tiny wonder.

You’ve been a very supportive surrogate mum, Bonnie, & it’s wonderful to see the results of your diligence.
He doesn’t really look big enough to stand, much less fly…
lovely series, thank you for posting the photos.
