Tears on my pillow.....
Teardrops on my pillow as silently I weep
I am lost without you my heart is aching
I toss and turn but cannot find sleep
They asked you to go and fight in this war
And than came this man and knocked on my door
He told me that you died in battle a hero so proud
I looked at him not hearing I just wanted to shout
How many more lives is it going to take
Before ending this war this horrible mistake
I reach for him to kiss his face
But all I find is an empty space
Teardrops on my pillow as silently I weep
I toss and turn but cannot find sleep.

Oh Renate you have captured the very feeling of sadness. This is a heartfelt and deeply moving portrait. I love the emotional expressiveness that comes through on her beautiful face. Also like the luminous quality of the colours you have used. She radiates in her melancholy.

oh, it’s so sad Renate, made me think and dwell for a while on the awfulness of war
and how it affects the loved ones of those that volunteer their lives in battle
