Featured in the Art Nouveau Group-Thank you
One of only two remaining (of this style) Metro signs in Paris. Originally there were 20 of these around Paris but were removed in the 60’s and 70’s during a period of “modernisation”. The last two are now preserved as historical sites and represent the best of designer Hector Guimard’s Art Nouveau style for Parisien public structures.
This style of Metro entrance was supposed to represent a dragon fly opening it’s wings. This one is at Abbesses (Montmartre) and the other is at Pointe Dauphine.
