the sock monster under the bed by

This is an illustration that i made for a story that i wrote. The story is about a boy that lost al the second halfs of his socks. His big brother tells him then of the sockmonster that is living under his bed. They like to live under the bed of young kids with a lot of junk on there rooms. they eat dust and collect socks for their nest. they have big noses and go from under the bed out night to search for new socks. if the monster lives long under your bed he will grow very large.

Every kid loves drawing, I just never stopped. 1 day my teacher in highschool told me I could go to an artschool because I was so good in all that artistic stuff. And so I did. I went to the artschool in Genk. It was a whole new world, for the first time I was completely in a world were art and drawing was important. It was so inspirational. Now I am studying at the St-Lucas in Gent for a bachelor. I still have 1 year to go. Than I can start working on my career as an professional illustrator.

Hihi grappig. Het monster ziet er leuk uit, en ik vind ook het jongetje heel goed gelukt.

  • ik vind het jongetje juist niet zo leuk :s zo simpel en geen echte vorm in.

I love how the monster has taken on the carpet pattern. And all the odd socks underneath him (I’m always one to look at all the details in kids illustrations). Gorgeous illustration. :D

  • hey pip,
i love love details in illustrations. It gives the childrens so much to look at. i don’t like simple drawings like eric carle’s caterpillar. They are beautifull but that is it. there should be so much more about an illustration. bit on the other hand it depends on the age of the kids. And it takes a lot op time and inspiration to put them togheter. time that i as a student don’t have (with all of those diffrent classes.) so someday i hope to make a very nice and funny detailed childrens illustration.
