allen hammered this afternoon
and i loved the sound…
it was the sound of you building our boat
which would have been…

it brought you home
you were close
and i saw our boat…
i sat by the bonfire that you’ve built for me…
you turned and looked
but had no smile…

i wished allen’s bakyard party was too big
so he would have too many lights to put up…
i wished allen would hammer all afternoon
and into the dark and into indigo air…
so i could sit by the fire
and watch you build our boat
which would have been…

when allen was done
it was barely at dusk
and i saw you put up your sail
and went about your way alone in our boat
which would have been…
and i still sat by the fire you’ve built for me…

and it started to rain…
