Mimi I wish upon your shooting star that you can do my three paintings of women for me (oh well it was worth a try). For my assessment I am doing three paintings of women in the landscape on canvases 6ft x 2ft, just wishing I had a tiny bit of the talent you have. You are wonderful!

  • mimi yoon replied

haha silly, i’ll catch some more shooting stars and send them your way… : ) though i don’t think you need them at all… you do beautiful women figures already… 6×2 is very odd proportion… sounds like it would make very interesting composition… much luck and have tons of fun and thank you so so kindly, dear kate… : )

  • Shoaib .

    Shoaib .

I’m still trying to figure out HOW you do this… pure talent mimi
i expect nothing less from the prodigy !!!

  • mimi yoon replied

it’s quite simple dear shoaib… soak myself in the mood and just go for it… : )
ingredients for this piece: 24”x30” canvas, 3 colors of acrylic (usually 2, but on this, i used pale pink wash), 3 brushes, a roll of paper towel, a hair dryer for i have zero patience when it comes to waiting for the paint to dry, and the mood…. :P… thank you so much, shoaib… i really appreciate you… :D

This is sublime, quite different to many of your others I felt. Do you find each painting brings out a different side to your personality? Breathtaking art once again dear Mimi.
    x

  • mimi yoon replied

hi dear jim~ i’ll be bluntly honest, but please don’t tell anyone else… i usually don’t know where i’m going or how it will turn out until i stop… this thought just came to me – i get lost in and with and into my paintings… lost meaning like getting lost in an unfamiliar area kinda lost… : )... seriously, even when i painted selkie, i wanted to portray her beauty but wasn’t sure how… so i just started it and stopped when i felt it was slightly unfinished… thank you so much for the wonderful compliment… x

  • syd baker

    syd baker

Hi Mimi, you’ve got me remembering how for a long time after at school, every drawing or painting I did, even graphic pieces, had a beautiful woman in it, I sometimes wondered if I’d ever meet one of them, but I never did; still, I suppose dreaming is better than not dreaming… another fine beauty who sparkles my memories!

  • mimi yoon replied

memories are beautiful… even the sad memories turn beautiful if you let time do its thing… not sure if i supposed to say sorry or thank you, so i’ll choose thank you and simply say thank you (have i said one too may thank you’s?) : )... many of us doodle faces… and usually they resemble the artist to some degree… how about your beautiful woman? ;P… you know i’m just playing, right? :P

thank you so much, syd… i believe the woman you used to include in your art’s a beauty… x

    Adam Godman

if i didn’t love my Girfriend as much as i do, i would have a major crush on her… In fact i think i might anyway, let’s not tell Mel about this :P

You’ve mastered Acrilics! You’re able to get sharp edges, and impeccable shading. I’m working with them now (trying to): my ‘sharp edges’ are blurry and my shading is blotchy, could you give me any tips? (feel kinda silly asking, but i can’t think of anyone I’d rather have help me out)

    Yours professionally, Adam
    [giggle]

  • mimi yoon replied

hi adam… ok, i won’t tell your mel… your secret will remain secret forever with me… ;P
thank you so much for your high praise and would love to help you… but is hard without doing a demo… you could work acrylic in may different ways as with all other media… the trick is to work very quickly since it tends to dry pretty fast (which i like)... and to paint with mighty confidence : )... as you can see, i use acrylic like watercolor, very wet… do layers of glazing and take off with paper towels for the lighter areas…. and for the sharper areas, i draw with brush as if i’m using a pencil…. i never sketch in with a pencil prior to painting… the white area you see on the face is literally the white of the canvas… you have to play around and experiment a lot and have to figure things out yourself by feeling them… and find your favorite way, adam… if you’re using the medium thick as you do with oil, when you blend make sure that already applied paint on the area you’re working on is wet… otherwise it is almost impossible to blend… i know this will not help you much… only thing that i can tell you that i’m very confident about is work with confidence and work quickly when painting with acrylic... most of my paintings are finished within an hour… longest, 1.5 to 2 hours…hair on most of my pieces are done in 2-3 minutes… longer than that means ruined paintings (for me).... but everyone’s different. try glazing, adam… it’s fun and quick (not much choice) : )

    p.s. work with mighty confidence is for all media… pretend you’re a master… and be bold… : )

I’d say the eyes and the very clean look….......nothing needs to be added or subtracted – the sepia/monohcrome tones work well and give it an evocative feel – I’d say also it could be an illustration for a romantic novel – nice addition Mimi!

Mimi, another stunning work. I feel so unqualified to even comment on your work, but it moves me so. Your portraits are alive. I look into the subject’s eyes and I see a little of myself and of every other woman on earth. The title is so relevant and wonderful. xx Kay

  • mimi yoon replied

what a silly thing to say, kay…. unqualified?
