sometimes strangest things happen…
i painted this today at work…
was very happy with it until i took a break for dinner…
when i came back, i overworked it… again…
unhappy, i made her mascara run…
and seems at about the time, she uploaded this image ...

selkie is an amazingly talented artist/poet who’s been inspiring me lately… each time i see her portraits, i get an uncontrollable impulse to paint her… cannot help it… ;P

    this is incredible Mimi
    I am doing VCE at the moment (HSC in the rest of Australia, and i don’t know what it is called where you are (I’m in my 13th year of schooling)) this year in Art i am focussing on emotion, emotional trauma and the like.
    Your works have been a huge inspiration (in fact Wish You Where Here, Silence, and I Wish I Could Drift To You where what gave me a majority of the ideas that i have for the subject. They are proudly stuck in the front page of my Visual Diary (correctly Attributed to you, naturally).

    Doesn’t seem overworked, fact is your eye-to-hand-to-mind coordination is so enjoyable, the big assertive strokes, the amazing supra-realism of face right down to the iris detail and the care you took with the dribbles… and, strangely, one of my favorite parts, besides looking her right in the eye, is that barest suggestion of her shoulder. So much drama…

    love your comment syd… and i appreciate every word you’ve written… i appreciate them very much…. yes, my strokes are very assertive and i mark them with great confidence, and drama is a beautiful vocab for art… that’s exactly what i try to create (dislike drama queens and kings in life though)...but much of them happens without planning or thinking even…. just happens… : )

    I like the stokes on hair and ofcourse the black water – tears. When you keep silent and mum with untold stories, these tears script them in detail. I have read many untold stories in such silence, but you have formatted it with bold and black mascara leaving impressions in heart forever. Excellent work Mimi. Keep it up.
