she saw the end of the sky trapped within cement walls...

mimi yoon

she saw the end of the sky trapped within cement walls...

.

the wind no longer carried the familiar scent
she smelled old concrete and mildew

no seagulls flew
instead the broken fragments of frozen waves
that tasted like plastic

she saw the end of the sky
trapped within the cement walls
grey and cold

she still stood on the ledge
in the wind
she knew she was there to catch silent whispers
but she could not remember who’s…

This is so interesting, Mimi. Colours and textures as well as the overlays make for an intriguing image.

  • mimi yoon replied

thank you so much mel…. had a few of my students ditch their afternoon classes on friday and went on a field trip to an architecture school famous for their innovative work… the school building is an old long(very very long) high ceilinged warehouse located right in the middle of downtown, los angeles… some of the biggest and the most famous architecture firms were there reviewing students’ work… it was an awesome and inspiring experience for my students…

this image is a student’s work that was displayed and i caught the top portion and the building’s ceiling….

thank you so much again, mel… : )

That tiny piece of sky keeps breathing in hope…

    The drawers sit empty
    but for rodents musk
    within their walls
    long gone the trust
    still, echo’s knock
    without a sound
    waiting to hear
    old memories found

    haha

  • mimi yoon replied

only rodents i found within the walls (outside) of my house are the ones that drowned in the swimming pool… haha… and they are not pretty….
    thanks roy~

this is a beautiful poem, the mood in it is beautifully described. the photo is interesting. can’t help but think of math, with the photo’s lines and shapes.

  • mimi yoon replied

i’m sure there are much math and physics applied in the sculpture and in the architecture of the building itself… the numbers and the lines of the texture i’ve used is an old piece of paper that has electrical wiring information recorded… found it in an electrical box at my art school…. thank you so much, farras, for your coomment… : )

    Ehivar Flores ...

Mimi, this is dramatic and intelligent, structural and organic, good artistic work,
it is as if you made philosophy of the cotidianidad in many of your works,I learn much of your art.

  • mimi yoon replied

these are exact words i’d use to describe your work, ehivar… it means so much to me, because through your art and writing, i learned that you’re a thinker of great depth…. thank you so so much, ehivar… : )

Incredible combination of image and poem….

I can’t help but wonder what it would be like to be boxed without so much as a slither of sky to be seen or felt.

    Hmmmmm

    XOXO

  • mimi yoon replied

that would be horrible… choking…. insanely painful until one adjusts or adapts to the condition, because we have that ability to adapt…. then it will be sad… what an ugly and sad thought though…
let’s imagine beautiful and endless cyan sky with heaven’s clouds with the flavors of cotton candies… :P
    thank you so much, beautiful…
    xoxo

It is indeed a very good architectural sculpture…....I like the light a lot – massive, great overlays and generally a darkness that invites mystery – I line the strong lines and the bolts on the blue structure combo!

  • mimi yoon replied

although it appears grand, the sculpture is not that big… i also love the strong lines and the bolts detail on the piece… you should one day visit sciarch… very very close from the hall…. i think you may find it interesting… i say ‘may’ because it’s not as chic and clean lined as the hall or the getty… thank you, julian… : )
