Excellent sense of motion and sweeping lines…the broader strokes of the background and light treatment suit this piece very well Mimi – nice work!

  • mimi yoon replied

julian, seriously, every detail you point out… i don’t recognize them until you come around… i usually visualize a vague image… with this piece, a profile of a girl with her hair blowing forward… the background stokes, i used the fattest brush i have to tone the canvas… the strokes, swifter the better, quicker the better, more uncontrolled (less controlled) the better… the color(i’m still on the background), whatever my mood dictates… her lips, i had no reference so had to wipe off a few times with paper towels until it felt good enough… hair, honestly, took about 3 minutes… again swifter the better… and i decided it was done when it felt right and slightly undone :P…. my ingredients for this: a big fat ruined brush, 1.5” flat wash brush (in good condition), a half inch dia. sumi brush (also damaged), a roll of paper towels, a blow dryer ( i have no patience to wait for anything to dry), and a rough in my head and some emotions going though my soul (?).... i think i’m in a weird mood with the rain outside julian… sorry had you read all a long reply… i’m going shopping after this~ thank you always for making me see my own art with artist’s eye which i always neglect to do… :P
