fantastic painting mimi, some of the highlights are the ankles, the elbow and the folds and volume of the dress. wonderful palette and techniqe.

  • mimi yoon replied

thank you sooOo~ much, mh… it was very challenging… working with a given subject… usually i paint what my mood dictates… : )

...i honestly don’t know how you do it mimi….amazing work...
I’ve been looking at this piece for a while.. it is so sad, but very striking and will stick with me for a while longer. I see the similarities and themes from your other work for this collaboration..
..I do not know anything about art technical stuff, but your paintings and drawings have taught me to see and feel so much from art ~ and helped me to portray feelings and emotions with my photography….thank you...

  • mimi yoon replied

...wow jazz~ i am utterly flattered… that is one big compliment !!!
i thank you so much, jared !!!
...it’s all about feelings, emotions, passion, and expression… we are lucky people… to indulge in the pleasure of art… : )

    sadeyedartist

That is outstanding. I love it.

What is the crow/raven a symbol of?

  • mimi yoon replied

thank you… these birds usually symbolize ill omen, i believe…
here, the bird was included to create the sense of unhappiness and an expectation of the probability of sad news… and to heighten the sense of dark mood.

this painting is very moving and compelling, you are so prolific and talented, great stuff!

I love all your elements, they’re all there too and you chose a great way to sequence them. I never would have thought of that but I might after tonight. Really moody too. Fantastic Mimi.

  • mimi yoon replied

thank you simon… i usually don’t plan things much… i vaguely visualize the rough in my head and if i could feel its vibes, i just jump right into painting, and the elements… they just get added in a very spontaneous manner during the process… so i never know what to expect from my own self : )... most of the times it works… : )

Hello my friend…..the scene, though dark seems needy and somewhat tender – circumstance sometimes has nothing to do with character. I think she is standing in the middle of a lot but she manages to cover herself, a sign of sorts – I can’t figure out the blood splatter yet. I like that it is a collaboration piece and I am awaiting the “coming soon” result. Keep it up. From an esthetic standpoint I enjoy the white v dark balance. (still over analyzing – oh well…)

  • mimi yoon replied

i don’t think you’re over analyzing… just as you have an eye for perfection which enables you to capture those sharp and perfect images… i believe you have an eye for seeing beneath the superficial… hence seem analyzing, but not overly at all…
all you’ve said is perfect (here’s that word again)...
bloody splatter… i’m not sure if it is blood… silly but it’s there because i wanted some of my infamous red that i use over and over : )... and i think it worked here… it could also represent pain she’s experiencing…

    and the v : )... yes!

thank you julian… i really appreciate your comment…

    p.s. i meant to say – perfectly balanced v comp!! – on your cut : )
p.p.s. this painting does not portray its creator (moi) at all.

I knew that you had included the ever present red…..and yes, a bit of pain representation is felt, however, the spatter made me think of a stronger sensation. I see it again this morning and I like it even more – again the balance between the shades.
Thnx for “cut”and …....boo! happy halloween.

  • mimi yoon

“i can no longer paint your voice…
i can no longer paint the sound of our memories…”

one thing i love about your art is your words. i actually do something similar but only on my blog and it is kind of hidden because I am kind of a shy person but anyways.. I believe story telling is a big part of art. I just think art is a little subjective and it should mirror the inner-self of the artist. Emotions are important, to communicate those emotions is also equally important. Well, any how let me cut it short before my comments turn into an essay.. Great, great work! congratulations.
