New challenge:see my previous journal entry April 18, 2007 « OK, the game's up Who needs drugs? » Journal Comments georgiegirl almost 10 years ago What are solarplate etchings? John Conway almost 10 years ago can I answer that? solar plate is a light sensitive steel backed polymer plate, used by printers (artists) as an alternative to other printing techniques that use solvents. Exposure is through UV process (mainly the sun, hence solar) and developed by using ordinary water A transparent film is placed on top of the plate and exposed through that. As simple as a drawing on acetate can be used. It’s a neat process. MiMiDesigns almost 10 years ago That just about sums it up, John! It’s a commercial process that artists have adapted to their own use. I use it for both relief prints (like linocuts) and etchings.
