This artwork is part of a mammoth
artistic journey to understand the inner world of
my son with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, in
particular Aspergers Syndrome.
This has been my therapy, my saviour at times.
It has also been an invaluable tool for my children
and I to communicate and connect.
This painting visually expresses the following:
“So many times I watch my son gazing at children across a playground, floundering, excited, stumbling. I will him to quiet himself, to let his goodness flow out, who could resist?
I will my love into him, my strength, patience, as I watch nervously. Wanting him to befriend them, nervous about the confused look, forlorn, as his over eagerness causes them to put up walls, back away, or, worse still, to mock him.
Oh the joy that bubbles over when he and a friend run around with no abandon. That smile beaming, making my heart explode."
