A master teacher once spoke of a “peace that surpasses all understanding.” I’ve tried to capture in this image something of my current appreciation of what he may have meant. Here the ocean’s tumult has subsided into tranquility and the bridge is like a pier in that it is a destination unto itself, standing tall within it all like a tree. The heavens at first glance seem to mirror the once wave-strewn tumult of the sea, but this is not the case. There is strength of higher desire descending and it is this allowed ingression that has quieted the sea. The tension between is dynamic in that the ocean ever possesses the capacity for upheaval; it is its interface into the sky above that provides all impetus for serenity. There is communication here, and a choice extended from below, as one might place a ladder high into the branches of an apple tree and use that ladder as a means through which to access the fruit there-in. ‘Above’ descends as the fruit to be the means through which ‘below’ ascends. Above and below meet within the branches and in consuming the fruit, below becomes connected into above. The misting rain falling that day is the communication, the fruit of co-mingling – that of connection restoring and renewing. It is in this way that the sea can know its origin; it is in returning to the heavens that it opens itself to receive. The fruit of that effort comes as remembrance raining down. It is the light of the sun penetrating all desire that spurs the cycle onward until the distance in-between dissolves; the bridge is completed, and only a calm assurance remains. ©2012 Miles A Moody All Rights Reserved.
