Let Freedom Wing
By Miles A Moody

A nice stroll on the beach on a weekday evening out along the western extreme of the Island; such a beautiful place where I can walk out from beneath the shadows of beach homes and condos and leave them behind, though not out of sight, if the truth be told. A camera in hand can be a bit of a distraction, where the sea meets the land to whisper calming words to anyone who might happen along. I like to walk barefoot in the surf at times like these, my toes caressed by the sand and water – fingertips reading the braille of the sea’s love letter. If I were to take my camera along then it would be easy to get lost in the need to capture an image, forgetting all about the relationship I came here to nurture. I come here, stealing some time from my busy day and blinding myself to everyday appetites and ordinary needs so as to develop the necessary sensitivity, like tuning a stereo to that ever-so-faint and oh-so-beloved radio station, a singular frequency hidden among the rest and playing music that seems somehow known to me though I can’t really remember when it ever was in style. I’ll pass the occasional beach walker and exchange a silent nod acknowledging with them that something significant is happening here though I don’t entirely understand it. Maybe I don’t need to. The waves fall upon the beach like the soothing stroke of a great benevolent hand and my breathing goes deeper and comes to me easier. I’m purring like a kitten, feeling safe and secure now that my mind has stopped racing the speedway of my concerns.
