Whitewater Falls is located off of N.C. 281 about 8 miles south of the juncture of U.S. 64 and N.C. 281 west of Brevard NC. This 411 foot falls includes two drops and a series of cascades. Here we have an isolation of the upper drop.
This is an early morning view, from across the gorge, of Whitewater Falls this past February 2010. I arrived the evening before and found the falls completely shrouded in fog. There were brief moments when the mist cleared enough to thrill me, but never so much as to allow a clear shot. I slept that night out on the viewing platform under a brilliant full moon – chilly but enthralled in an experience only nature can create – in the first light of dawn, this is what I saw. If you can, let your imagination summon up the roar of this mighty falls; feel the chill of its icy breathe from across the way, and slip gracefully into the comfort of nature’s embrace (continued with Warm in Your Embrace).
