Bridge over the West Fork of the Pigeon by

Located at the 4100 foot elevation, a single arch stone bridge straddles a waterfall on the West Fork of the Pigeon river. It was built here in the Pisgah National Forest by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the height of the Great Depression (circa 1937) along NC Hwy 276. The locals call it “High Arch Bridge (Source: North Carolina Waterfalls by Kevin Adams).

(Cotinued from Tones of Winter – Looking Glass) I feel the essence of the life in nature very much reflected in the music and lyrics of Simon and Garfunkel’s “*Bridge Over Troubled Water*.” Expressed in these words, I find the paradox of acceptance, whereby that activity of acceptance heals me into itself, such that I become part of that which has lovingly received me. The energy of estrangement of the ‘small me’ feeds a transmutational fire, and I feel restored into a flow, a continuum with everything and everyone around me. Although my eyes still see everything as separate from me, my deeper feelings inform me of a very different reality. The originator, the source of this reality, I find in the wilderness, where the creational hand still feels fresh upon the palate. That heart reaches across the chiasm of unworthiness, and whenever and wherever I choose to allow it, I am infolded in a healing embrace. So many who went before me have spoken of this…..this song is but one example.

Bridge Over Troubled Water

When you’re weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all

I’m on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can’t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

When you’re down and out
When you’re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you

I’ll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down

Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

See how they shine
If you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind…
