Atheist am I not
Although I am not an atheist, I do not agree with most of organized religion. I feel that it strips people of their essence, leaving them more fearful and empty than ever before. Religion preaches love, and yet rules through fear, encourages freedom and yet demonstrates control. And above all, it removes all goodness, magic and godliness from the greatest source of all – self.

and sit in the pews,
aware and absorbing
unquestioned, biased views.
Attention is focused
on the higher standing man
whom to you preaches
of your master plan.
Honour and worthiness,
uninterrogated words
are continuously force fed,
from the day of birth.
Thou shalt thou neighbour harm,
nor sin, nor from the good Lord flee,
accepted as your Saviour,
Jesus will set you free.
You are taught to live your life
as an honest and grateful man,
you are constantly reminded
of the greater plan.
The people gather in masses
like confused and lonely sheep,
they flock to these words of wisdom
on the benefits to reap.
They question not their society,
wallowing in mud,
and in almighty Christianity
hide their sins in blood.
They focus on their futures,
on their place in heaven to secure –
their souls of honesty and of good,
must be whole and pure.
And after Sunday,
I try to seek,
these good and righteous men,
yet all I see is a world of hurt,
and pretenders drenched in sin.

Wow, this is amazing. Especially the end, it brings you back to where you started, with nothing, with no goodness. I totally agree with you how religion seems to control and instill fear in people. Personally, I don’t see how people can believe in something that causes so much conflict and strife among countries and peoples, and brings fear instead of peace.

I know! Its a crazy world we live in. And its up to us to change it. Its the only way. One of my favourite quotes: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Don’t remember who said it, but they’re damn right. Its one of the quotes I live my life according to.

haha! yeah that quote is amazing! I think it was Mahatma Gandhi and incredible human being. So much to learn from people like him. I’m with you though, on the long and arduous task of changing this world, but we can only offer so much, individually. That’s what’s frustrating, wish I could do it all.

Oh so very true!!! – My hubbie had a strict religious upbriging in Europe, and he tells me one of the reasons why he left “the Church” was because only the very rich were allowed to sit in the “good” pews, while the peasants had to make do with the austere benches downstairs. He recalls hearing these very “pillars of society” doing business deals whilst putting on the pretence of “being pious”.....
To me Your God/Creator is within you – one does not need to “go to Church” to worship – just look around, there is beauty everywhere, in trees, grasses, flowers, in the animals that we walk this mortal coil with and even the tiny insects and bees…....
Do unto others…...... that is my mantra.
Love your work – this shows great wisdom.
