The Backward Race

Waiting for Death to Call (The Backward Race)

I smile & I dance,

So the tears will not flow,

It’s my last chance,

But, I, for now, am the only one to know

that the end is fast approaching, at the speed of Life.

The people who stand

and, cannot understand,

Should I tell, or should I close my mouth?

Inside, I keep all that which can’t come out,

I laugh & sing, so I won’t scream and shout

Alone, to face the great Adventure

of the Human Race.

Who can go slowest?

Who will be last to cross the finish line?

Time will tell. That most worthy friend of mine.

I’m now a sprinter in this race

against the clock

And will surpass the worst,

it’s oh so true.

The last will now be first

and first be last.

I’m going to lose,

So I can be the one

who won,

I’m now just oh so much faster than you

We spend our lives in this Backward Race,

The slowest pace is set by he who’ll win,

I know now, I’m not to be the winner of the race:
