The Silversmith & Wedding Photographer (retired)
Having gone out to capture some shots of the roman city of Bath I was approached for “bus fare” by the man in this shot. I suggested that if I was to do him a favour maybe he could do me one and allow me to take some pictures, which he did. Turns out his girlfriend was a pro wedding photographer in a former life and he was a silversmith. What we learn when we just take the time to talk to people – this was by all accounts a lifestyle choice for them.

Everyone has their perfect match. They are a cute couple.L.O.L.
Mike Weeks replied
Thanks Ely, they were very nice in deed – for the offer of the original “bus fare” of £5 (US$7) he even suggested that she would play the bongo drums for me, What I gained in experience was well worth the final £15 paid.

Mike, this is quite the fascinating story to me. I have to say I am not sure why talented people would choose this lifestyle, but it is their choice and you have to respect them for that. I feel a little better knowing that if they change their minds later in life, they have the abilities and talents to do so. All in all a quite fascinating story and writeup. Oh, lol, before I forget, the picture is excellent, your composition is excellent, setting is also excellent as is depth of field and focus and it doesn’t really look posed. I would say it’s about as close to a 10 as you can get. Congrats on a well deserved feature!
Mike Weeks replied
Thank you very much. I am glad the photo appealed to you on so many levels.

Great shot – facinating story Mike – I’ve said many times that if we take the time to talk with people we will enrich our own lives. Oh how often I get told to shut the F#&% up LOL :-)))

very poignant. I think I’d give it all up too if I were a wedding photographer.
and @Judith… choice usually has nothing to do with ‘this lifestyle’. talent or no.
Mike Weeks replied
Thank you so much Kreddible Trout and for favouriting the photo also
