This is a detail of a statue of Pan, in the Lara Museum Witchcraft Exhibition, in Ronda, Spain.
Pan was an ancient Greek god of forests, pastures, flocks, shepherds, music and fertility. He had the body of a man and the legs and horns of a goat.
Over the years Pan has become symbolic of witchcraft, paganism and sexual depravity. There are many different arguments as to how this came about.
The statue is based on this later ideology, bearing little resemblance to the appearance of pan as described in Greek mythology. Indeed, the full statue could not be displayed on a ‘family’ site!
