Smiley Face Conjunction Panorama over Brisbane Water by

On December the 1st 2008, Venus, Jupiter and the Crescent Moon came together and formed a unique shape in the sky – a smiley face!

This image was captured at Green Point, overlooking Brisbane Water, on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia.

Canon 350D + 17-70mm sigma.

It’s a HDR image made up of 3 exposures.

Reprocessed as a panorama for a friend.

My name is Mike Salway and I’m an amateur astronomer and photographer.

I’m the co-founder of the Amateur Astronomy community site, IceInSpace, and my personal blog site and image gallery is at mikesalway.com.au

I love high resolution planetary imaging and deep-space imaging using a telescope, and I love capturing wide field vistas that involve a lovely foreground scene combined with astronomical interest in the sky.

I can’t see it, fantastic pano though. Congrats on the Ken Duncan Awards prize!

  • Thanks!
Oh you’re right – the actual conjunction was cropped out of this version LOL!
I forgot to change the description.
