For Guendalyn – a lovely lady with an unbridled enthusiasm for Venice! I promised her I’d post this and I finally found it in the archives.

My Grandfather, Pop Gillies, (far right) and his traveling companions aboard a Venetian icon – the gondola. I’m estimating this was taken around 1950, looking at the fashions and comparing this photo to others I have in the archives. The photo was taken as a souvenir and printed as a postcard. I scanned it and cleaned it up a little in PSE, but it didn’t need much work.

Photographer unknown, but “Forronia” has been stamped on the back.

In love with Ma Nature! Always have been, always will be. Let’s keep her safe, eh?

  • Thanks so very much, Colin, andI greatly appreciate the “fave”, too. Pop was always off on some trip or another during that time and I remembered this one after seeing some of Guendalyn’s works. Took a while to find it! :o)

    Them were the days.

  • Greatly appreciated, Fred. I would have loved to have gone traveling with Pop. He was was quite the character and toured all over Europe and the Middle East at the time. A little later on he was using a German 35 mm rangefinder (if memory serves me) and Ektacrome slide film. There were many boxes of slides, but I’m not sure what happened to them. I only have a box and a half in my possession.
