“The Swimming Giant”
Mirror Lake, Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada
July 16, 2011

We’re in the middle of a bit of a heat wave at the moment, with temps in the mid 30’s (90 American). It’s a little warm.

Meanwhile, I should mention that Mirror Lake is a pretty cool little man-made lake in the middle of the resort and there’s a kiosk where the wee kiddies can rent boats and sail around the lake. I wonder how many of them have nightmares after encountering this lovely bit of sculpture. I also wonder what bright spark decided to install this in the lake.

In love with Ma Nature! Always have been, always will be. Let’s keep her safe, eh?

This is a strange and wonderful sculpture!

  • Strange indeed, Marilyn! I was a little surprised when I came across it. It wasn’t there last year.

He really doesn’t look like he’s enjoying himself though Mike…
    looks more like he’s drowning!!!!
    Nice pic & story mate..
boy how quickly the seasons change…
only a couple of weeks ago & you were hankering for the odd drop of sun…
    now the mid 30’s…
We’ll be over this wet & cold winter sooner than we know down here!!!!
    Cheers Lee

  • Many thanks! My thoughts exactly, Lee. He definitely looks to be in some sort of distress and that’s what made me wonder how many of the kiddies get the heebies!
And, yes, it’s a little warm over here. Not complaining, though, because we’ll be up to our bums in snow soon enough! Meanwhile, I’ve got AC in the apt and AC in the car. I’ll survive!

Delightful if "somewhat scary " image of a giant in distress… actually he swims like I do!! lol
A fabulous capture Mike.. I love the gorgeous green colors and reflections that you have captured here!!!

  • Many thanks, Ken! This was a bit of a surprise for me as I don’t remember seeing it last year. He does look a little uncomfortable, doesn’t he? Mirror Lake is a lovely little spot in the centre of the village and lives up to its name quite often.

Love this Mike! Very well composed and exposed.

  • Many, many thanks, Hamish. It certainly is an unusual sculpture, isn’t it? I was rather surprised to come across it because I don’t remember seeing it last year. And I should have paid a little more attention to the sign and obtained a little info on it.

How cool is that and what a way to get the kiddies to behave…heheheh. ( “If you don’t behave, you’re going for a swim”) Great shot, Mike!

  • Hehehe! “Be good. This ain’t the friendly giant!” Many thanks, Deb!
