The Saint Lawrence River

Mike Oxley

Cornwall Ontario, Canada

Artist's Description

The River and the “Hill of Death” in the Rotary Eco Gardens where the kids like to toboggan. Note the hollows bottom left corner. They’re about half way down the hill and they make for an interesting and bumpy ride. They were put there by the snow board kids. The icy puddle at the bottom is good for a spectacular splash and soaking, a real joy on a winter’s day. Hence the nickname. The well-worn path from left to right is the safe way back up the slope. The river is only partially frozen here due to the rapid current, but a couple of miles downstream, it’s frozen from bank to bank, a boon for the contraband that seems to make its way across, pretty much unimpeded. However, the odd truck, car or snowmobile doesn’t make it. Cornwall is on the left, Cornwall Island on the right. Cornwall Island is part of the Mohawk reservation.

Cornwall, Ontario, Canada.

Taken late afternoon, mid March, 2001.
