From the Simple to the Grand: Historic Churches of Eastern Ontario by

There are many old churches in my little part of Eastern Ontario. Many are prominent in the towns and cities, many are out in the countryside, by themselves. Some are impressive limestone buildings, some are simple clapboard structures. All are mainstays of the communities that they serve.

It was a pleasure driving along the highways and backroads to find these beautiful buildings and I hope you enjoy them, too.

Here are two others of the area’s churches.

Thanks for stopping by!

In love with Ma Nature! Always have been, always will be. Let’s keep her safe, eh?

Mike this calendar is a real GEM. I love heritage, history and architecture, you’ve managed to bring it all together in one beautiful 2012 calendar. Awesome!

  • Thanks so very much, Louise. I barely scratched the surface with this collection. Many miles put on the car over the past month, but many more hidden gems discovered. What is unfortunate, though, is that so many of them have no written history and the only way I can date them is by the little marker that’s on the building. Some don’t even have that!

What a wonderful collection, Mike. All such interesting architecture and, of course, churches are so fascinating that way….what a good idea you had to put these lovely photos in a calendar…

  • Many, many thanks, Kat. This is the third in a series that I’ve put together. I had to travel a bit further afield to get these ones – about 300 k this weekend alone! Most of the closer ones are already in the other calendars.

Such beautiful churches, Mike – I always wanted to travel around the country taking photographs of churches

  • Many, many thanks, Shulie. And travel I did! Over 500k over the past few weeks. Found quite a few more lovely little churches for future reference though.

Beautiful Calendar and collection of churches Mike.

    Cheers Jude

  • Thanks so very much for such a lovely comment, Jude. We’re quite lucky here in Eastern Ontario. There are quite a few of the older buildings and churches in the area and most are solidly built with the local limestone.

A great record of peoples faith hope and love for the Lord in this.

  • Thanks so very much, Fred. We have many of these lovely old churches in the area and also in Quebec. Beautiful on the outside and usually stunning on the inside.

This is a super calendar Mike!

  • Many thanks, John. The older churches and buildings in the area are usually well preserved and it’s a pleasure touring the countryside looking for them and discovering them. The churchyards are fascinating, too, with gravestones going back many years, showing the history of the populace.

Beautiful calendar showing some very beautiful churches, Mike, it is wonderful that in these days of “give me, give me” that simple faith is still the mainstay of people’s lives – x

  • Much appreciated, Mattie, and many thanks. I’ve barely scratched the surface and there are a lot more in the area. Some I know about, some I have yet to find. What is nice is that these lovely old churches are the pride of their communities and beautifully looked after.
