Grand Falls of Northern Arizona by

Grand Falls is one of the most spectacular and unknown places in Arizona. I visited back in March and went back to process some photos I never got around to really looking at.

I love the scope and details that you can see in the shot. If you want a much larger version to really see the details, visit my blog:

What’s interesting about the falls is all the junk that is collected in the lower left portion of the photo. Most of what you can see are from trees and dead foliage captured along the way, but there are definitely some “man-made” objects down there as well.

This is definitely a place I plan on revisiting next March, hopefully after a nice, snowy season for the high country. The flow over the Falls when it’s peak is pretty amazing from what I’ve seen in photos. I need to see that in person.

Technical jargon: Tripod, 4-5 brackets, photomatix, CS4, Topaz, Imagenomic.

UPDATE: This got a frontpage spot on Explore over on Flickr, I’m beyond excited :)

  • It’s a long ways from where you will be, plus there is no water during the summer, so it just wont be as great :)

I love Arizona and this is next years destination. Thanks so much for this fine example of your work. Thom

  • Thom, if you go, try to pay attention to the rain in AZ and when the runoff is…I think late in March is a good time, but if we don’t get a ton of snow in the high country, it may not matter much. This place is off the beaten path, a 10-mile dirt road to get there and it’s not really a place tourists visit much, so not many ways to tell how the flow is going.

This is so awesome!!! Glad you found and shared. I am glad I cannot distinguish the man-made debris in the photo. What bad care-takers some of us are to our beautiful earth.

  • Agreed :(
