Hi, I live in the West Coast town of Runanga on the South Island of New Zealand.

I’m a Portrait/Landscape painter and have recently taken to photography to capture pictures for references for painting later. I love nothing more than camping in the mountains and waking early for a wonderful sunrise or taking my camera with me when I go fishing to take a few shots of the ruby red sunsets which the coast provides.

The landscape here is unique to our country and has become quite a tourist attraction these past few years. There is just a narrow belt of land trapped between the Tasman Sea and the Southern Alps almost the length of the Island with several mountain passes crossing to the larger eastern side. This makes the West Coast isolated from the rest of New Zealand.
The climate is sub-tropical because of the high rainfall and this has created beautiful, sometimes pristine, rainforests the length of the coast with lakes and rivers galore.
The first European settlers were gold miners in the mid 1800’s and today there are still rich deposits of gold and coal that are currently being mined.
